So far the vetting of White House appointees does not seem to "represent a dramatic shift from the last two administrations." It rather speaks to "business as usual" or the more colloquial "SSDD". Obama played his flute and the children followed obediently. The future will speak to either the promised land or over a cliff into the sea like mindless lemmings. The fault will be not in our stars, but in ourselves.

Your comments are very insightful. However, in my view you continue to express many conservatives' misunderstanding of this 2008 election. Clinton and Bush are a political pair. Obama and his team represent a dramatic shift from the last two administrations, not just the last one. While you mention the liberals' abuse of Bush, it is just as important to remember the conservatives' abuse of Clinton; one is no more legitimate than the other. Your wisdom is in asking for a halt to this, as Obama has so clearly done himself.
It is also fundamentally important to acknowledge that "liberal" and "conservative" have shifted in meaning quite a lot. While old time liberals are, of course, happy, Obama is not an old time liberal nor was he elected as a liberal. While a very large part of his appeal has been "liberal" (speaking truth [the opposite of both Clinton's and Bush's legacies], being open to new ideas), it is his pragmatism and rebuke of dogma that got him elected and are his halmark.
