Why? Because it is useless.
A special state commission found in January that the death penalty was a more expensive sentence than life in prison, hasn’t deterred murder, and could kill innocent people.
Maybe New Jersey can be a model for national change (instead of its usual position as punch line).
Those facts have been known for YEARS.
Perhaps if we finally abolished this barbaric practice, and did something about our profligate use of fossil fuels, we could rejoin the list of civilized nations.
