Campaign Finance Reform R.I.P.
April 26, 2008 – 10:34 amNo matter what happens in November, we all know who the real loser was in this election campaign (no it’s not Rudy Giuliani, I know what you are thinking). Anyone attempting to limit the corrupting effect that money has on our politicians and our political process can chalk one up in the loss column.
Wasn’t this supposed to be McCain’s pet issue? If he was so unsuccessful in achieving meaningful reform in this area, why should anyone believe he will effective in convincing Congress (that will most likely contain strong Democratic majorities in both Houses) to adopt other economic measures?

I don’t know what’s worse about this Presidential campaign – the puerile, insultingly irrelevant level of conversation between the candidates – a conversation that has almost entirely ignored the pressing issues that cry out for attention.
Or the obscene amount of money the candidates have raised—have HAD to raise — to pay for this embarrassing campaign.
Wait. I think I do know. It’s the latter.
