Think again. McCain opposes a bill that would guarantee full tuition payments to veterans at any public school in their home state. Its expected cost is $52 billion over 10 years.

McCain says the legislation is too expensive and has proposed his own version, which would increase the monthly benefit available to most veterans to $1,500 from $1,100. It would not offer the equivalent of a full scholarship (compare this proposed increase with his proposed tax cuts for corporations
and you begin to see McCain’s real priorities).

Breaking down McCain’s opposition to this bill, you will notice that according to the presumptive Republican nominee, giving $5.2 billion a year to veterans to get an education is too expensive but continuing a war that costs over $2 billion a week is fiscally prudent. Just remember that the next time McCain accuses the Democrats of wanting to undermine the troops by removing them from gunfire. Once again, McCain demonstates his disturbing lack of principles, basic economics and foreign policy.

It is disturbing that after five years, we still do not know the answer to this question. First, she said that she would keep troops in Iraq until at least 2013. Now, she says she will be able to pay for increased benefits for veterans by ending the war. Is Hillary trying to have it both ways on yet another issue?

“When we end the war in Iraq we are going to have a lot of money. We’re going to use the money that we have been spending on Iraq — $300 million a day — and start taking care of our people here at home.”
