Crisis in Sudan & Horn of Africa Reaching Dangerous Level
Panel To Advance Path of Democratic Reforms
Washington, D.C. — On Monday, March 12, 2007, Dr. Mohammad Mohammad of the Committee of Marginalized People of Sudan and Dr. Gebreye Rufael, Chairman of the Ethiopia Coalition for Unity & Democracy Party will headline a panel discussion on the “Crisis in Sudan and the Horn of Africa. The panel discussion will be held at 1:30 p.m. in Ward Hall at American University in Washington, D.C. The Summit hosted by Darfur United and the Africa Next Project will be held from March 10-15, 2007.
Panel moderator Webster Brooks, Chairman of U.S. Iran Peace Project, said “The Sudan and Horn of Africa constitute the hottest regional conflict in the world today. The potential expansion of terrorism, failed states and anarchy are rife in the Horn of Africa. U.S. foreign policy and diplomacy in the region is now wholly ineffective.” The panel discussion will focus on reviving the push for democracy and stablization in the region, starting with the Sudan and throughout the Horn of Africa.
Among the luminaries and long-time activist addressing this second Solutions for Darfur and Beyond Summit, include radio impressario Joe Madison and former U.S. Congressman Walter Fountroy. The Summit will conclude with a mandate to let the crisis in Darfur be a beacon to end genocide, brutality and war on the African continent. Summit organizers will rally its supporters to initiate two movements. The first is to make “Rape as a Tactic of War a War Crime under the Geneva Conventions. The second movement is to make a Declaration of The Decade of the Pursuit of Peace on the African continent.
