The only surprise about Alberto Gonzales’s resignation was that he waited so long to get out of town.
And it was no surprise that Republicans, (particularly Senator John Cornyn of Texas) were quick to call it a “sad day when such a fine public servant (!) can be hounded out of office by the partisan atmosphere in Washington.�
No surprise because that’s the typical Republican response: “It’s not OUR fault! If the Democrats wouldn’t be so quick to shine the spotlight on incompetent, ethically challenged Republican office holders, we wouldn’t have these problems.�
Further proof that there’s something in the DNA of Republicans that distorts their view of the world and enables them to make such startling statements.
And what do we have to look forward to next at the Department of Justice? Why none other than that paragon of decisiveness and efficiency…the human embodiment of the deer in the headlights…that master of management who gave us Katrina, and charter member of The Gang Who Couldn’t Shoot Straight — MICHAEL CHERTOFF!
Sondheim surely had this administration in mind when he wrote Send In The Clowns.
Rather than sitting around waiting for the next disaster, I’m laying in a supply of canned goods and bottled water and heading for the storm cellar.
