Huckabee Tries To Have It Both Ways

First, his campaign releases an ad calling him a “Christian leader” (wink wink) which is followed by this very reasonable assessment of Mitt Romney’s speech:

“I think it’s a good thing and healthy for all of us for people to discuss faith in the public square. I have nothing but respect for his coming forth and sharing what he did. I’ve been very clear about my own personal views. I think all of us who seek the office of president should be candid with the American people.”

Huckabee’s rise in the polls scares the @%#$&* out of me!

There are apparently enough religious fanatics who will vote in the Republican primaries to give him the nomination, and there may be enough of the truly righteous who will overlook the Republicans’ criminal record over the past seven years to give him a victory in the general election!

We need to remind those voters that we’re electing a president — NOT a Pastor-In-Chief!

But none of this would have happened if the other clowns in the GOP field hadn’t self-destructed or been exposed as empty suits after being in the spotlight for more than 15 minutes.

I’ve always thought preachers of any kind could be dangerous.

Once the number of flat-earthers reaches critical mass, we may see a less refined Pat Boone as President.

    Shudder.

Goes to show you how refined and defined the term ‘God and Country’ can be.

While supposedly a multicultural, multiethnic, and ecumenical ‘melting pot’, it is still perceived to be primarily ‘Christian’ in its composition (witness Christmas Day as yet a national holiday), and there are those who would would have government serve those principles and support candidates to that effect.

I will continue to reserve judgement on the veracity of Romney’s public statement. His moral and ethical values have been deeply shaped by his upbringing and cannot but have some impact on his decision making with respect to relevant issues.
