Karl Rove was a disciple of Lee Atwater, who invented many of the techniques of modern smashmouth politics, a style of politicking that attempts to destroy the careers and reputations of political opponents.

Atwater ran a dirty-tricks campaign against Geraldine Ferraro in 1984, and gave us the notorious Willie Horton commercial that helped Bush Senior defeat Michael Dukakis in the 1988 campaign. Bush Junior and Atwater became good friends, and it is no accident that Bush found it easy to work with Atwater’s protege, Rove.

Rove’s departure should have a sanitizing effect on American politics.

    One can only hope.

According to Rove, “the dividers over the last six years have been the Democrats, who have routinely said that he (Bush) was not elected, he’s illegitimate, he’s a liar, he deliberately misled the country.”

The classic definition of “chutzpah” has always been that of the man who murdered his mother and father, and then threw himself on the mercy of the court, claiming to be an orphan.

Rove has now re-written that definition by claiming that the Democrats have been responsible for the divisive tone in Washington.

Nothing more clearly illustrates the disconnect between Republican mentality and reality than this statement from the chief fomentor of discord in American politics.

And the most frightening part of the statement is that Rove obviously BELIEVES it!

    Absolutely stunning.

Why so stunning?? Consider what Hitler believed!!

  • Karl Rove has his fingerprints on the destruction of the Republican congress. You let him off too easy by singing the praises of his successes. Analyze the failures.
