I don't think McCain is on life support just yet. I definitely agree with you on Thompson. There is no "there" there.

My understanding is that the old boys who run the Republican party and installed Bush&Co pander to the religious right to get the simpleton vote.

I don't doubt that Huckabee's professed religious beliefs are sincere-- after all, he angrily denounced evolutionists for believing that humans are descended from primates, apparently innocent of the knowledge that humans are primates.

He's the perfect Bible-belt candidate for all those millions of deep thinkers in the heartland who assert that the earth is about 6,000 years old.

Most likely they're the very ones who bought Lenox china for the Huckabees through the wedding registry they set up at Target so the good citizens of Arkansas could shower them with gifts on the renewal of their marriage vows.

Huckabee's rise is the most frightening news of this campaign, and shines the spotlight once again on the narrow-minded religious fanatics who've taken over the Republican party.

Their mission seems to be to install a Pastor-in-Chief in the White House -- not a president. And Huckabee meets their litmus test.

I'm sickened by the injection of religion into the crucial task of selecting a presidential candidate.

We are indeed a nation of yahoos.
