Pandering Works

Can everyone please stop beating around the bush? The only reason McCain selected Palin to be his running mate is because of her gender. If Hillary was the Democratic nominee, the Republicans would have given up on the female vote and went with another white guy.

An ABC News-Washington Post survey showed white women have moved from backing Obama by 8 points to supporting McCain by 12 points, with majorities viewing Palin favorably and saying she boosts their faith in McCain’s decisions.

Pandering has ALWAYS worked, and the Republicans have ALWAYS been better at that than the Democrats, who, despite the fiascos of Dukakis, Gore and Kerry, have still not learned that in politics as in marketing, perception is everything

Couple that with the ignorance and gullibility of the average voter, and you have the explanation for the GOP’s success in most elections.

It’s that combination that scares me, and why I believe that Obama will not win in November.

It’s always amazing to me when people don’t even realize that they are being pandered to. A 20 point swing among white women in a few days just shows that people still vote for what the candidates look like and not what they stand for.

If Obama loses, it will be because he has gotten away from what got him the nomination in the first place. His speeches now consist mainly of recycled DNC talking points and he has abandoned his earlier positions in favor of appealing to independents by moving to the center.

It flies in the face of logic that ANY woman familiar with McCain’s voting record on women’s issues, or who has looked into Pailin’s position on those same issues, would ever consider voting for that ticket.

Nevertheless, after only a week’s exposure to the right-wing “hockey mom” ideologue from Alaska, there’s been a 20-point swing among white women in favor of the GOP ticket.

This confirms my observation that small-town Wal-Mart shoppers — the group that will most likely decide this election — are apparently incapable of understanding the issues, are viewing this contest as if it were The People’s Choice Awards, and are using Us Magazine criteria to choose their candidate.

Does anyone here still believe that these yahoos should be allowed to vote and decide the direction of this country for the next four years?
