Progressive Blogger Shot in Washington

July 2, 2008 – 6:43 pm

Breaking news.

Talking Points Memo is reporting this afternoon that progressive blogger Brian Beutler was shot and critically injured in a mugging in Adams Morgan, Washington, D.C.

Brian was critically injured but is expected to make a complete recovery. He was a project director for Media Consortium, a blog network of progressive blogs of which Talking Points is a member.

He underwent surgery last night and is in stable condition today.

Politics aside, no one should have to deal with this crap. While I’m most centrist, angling slightly to the right (or left, depending on the day), Brian was widely respected.

Interestingly, this comes less than a week after the Heller decision from the Supreme Court allowing gun ownership inside homes. It’s also important to note, before people start making a political big deal over this, that with or without the Heller decision, Washington D.C. has already had 86 homicides this year making it, still, a very dangerous city.

Other publications (many of Brian’s friends) covering this:

  1. Reason Magazine - Now They Call Him 30 Cent
  2. Mother Jones - Blogger Brian Beutler Shot, Expected to Make Full Recovery

Good luck, Brian. We’re all behind you! And when you’ve made a complete recovery, I’ll buy you a beer and talk about better days ahead.
