But voters have perceived the GOP as the &quot;national defense party&quot; long before McCain became the nominee.

So here&#039;s another (scary) case of the public holding a point of view EVEN THOUGH it is contradicted by the facts (e.g. &quot;Obama is a Muslim.&quot;)

AND THESE PEOPLE ARE BEING ALLOWED TO VOTE???</description>

		<description>This really does not surprise me at all, even considering all of the counterintuitive facts you cite.  As long as the Republican nominee is a former war hero while the Democratic nominee has no military record to speak of, the public will perceive the GOP as better equipped to handle national security.</description>
