Quote of the Day

“The American people believe English should be the official language of the government…We should replace bilingual education with immersion in English so people learn the common language of the country and they learn the language of prosperity, not the language of living in a ghetto.”

- former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich on March 31, 2007 in a speech to the National Federation of Republican Women.

  • Newt knows what he’s talking about! He would make an excellent President or V.P.! He’ll get my vote.

Interesting that I addressed this elsewhere in these columns recently.

I have watched this issue evolve over the past fifty years. I chose to study Spanish in 1956 as my language choice in JHS because I saw this coming. I continued right on through my college career, and beyond. I am presently bilingual for my professional activities because my work demands it, though I share Gingrich’s philosophy and have not been afraid to express this openly.

My experiences interfacing with groups for whom
English is a second language have raised two major questions in my mind:
-why do they not share the same motivation to
acquire facility in English as did the immigrant groups before them?
-why has government on the local, state, and federal level made every attempt, and taken every step possible to convince them that they don’t??

As far as Gingrich is concerned, I enjoyed a recent interview of him which Charlie Rose conducted. He conducted himself in a fashion which gives support to DM’s observations.

However, I wonder where he has been all along on this issue. I do not recall him ever having been so outspoken in that regard. It is a very unpopular position to take in today’s society, and such a leadership position on the issue would have been welcome years ago.

  • “…We Win, they lose.” Ronald Regan

Newt often quotes Ronald Regan, when referring to future policy toward enemies of America and western civilization.

DAD, as you have noticed, Newt has been a prolific writer, activist, featured speaker, and political analyst of late. I’m so impressed with his knowledge and scope of the miriad of issues facing these sorta U.S.; United Regions?. Just as importatntly, he maps out solutions and builds support to implement them.

I have listed his website and two initiatives he is currently leading below. Perhaps you already have found them. If not, I recommend a look at the American Solutions for America’s Future. Newt wants to communicate bipartisan solutions to public servants in every governement jurisdiction and political party in the country.

His efforts and intellect reveal to me the character of a true statesman. Something sorely lacking in our government. He’s a guy I believe can carry his own baggage and get the job done.

American Solutions for Winning the Future, Chairman

“Our goal is to create a wave of change that meets America’s challenges, seizes our opportunities and builds a better future for all Americans.

Through a series of workshops on 9/27 (and again 9/29), we will make these solutions available to activists, volunteers and every candidate from both parties in every elected office in the country. If you would like to help host a workshop in your neighborhood or simply attend…”

He may just turn out be the one to win the Republican nomination, and the Presidency.

Gingrich in high office is even more dangerous to the future of this country than George W. Bush, because he’s smarter and slicker.

Gingrich is amoral and utterly without principle– his attack dog Deno Seder (from the early days of his political career in Georgia) was a slimer of truly Rovian malevolence.

Gingrich is not worthy to stand in the presence of decent human beings, much less the presidency of the United States.

His faux-religious posturing is enough to make a good man vomit.

Such ruthless greed for power as shown in the personal life of Gingrich makes W’s imperial ambitions seem tame by comparison.

  • You’re right VM, “Newt is smarter;” Democrat Kryptonite. President Gengrich! I like the way that sounds! I submit his service is honorable, principled, and honest.

Have you listened to any of his speeches or read any of his books recently? I believe you could become one of his biggest admirers if you gave his honorable principals and historical rationale an honest hearing.

“Rediscovering God in America By Newt Gengrich: Reflections on the Role of Faith in our Nation’s History and Future

A walking tour through Washington, DC to present America’s heritage of faith.”

“Winning the Future: A 21st Century Contract with America by Newt Gengrich.

How can America survive terrorism, activist judges, global economic challenges, and cultural and historical ignorance in the twenty-first century?”

Perhaps you prefer an unholy secular olygarchy supported by liberals who couldn’t get elected or legislation passed legitimately? Yes, activists and judges like the 9th jerkit court of appeals? People that value diversity above national unity? Liberals that would rather play power politics with our soldier’s lives and our nation’s future security? Political agendas that seek to weaken traditional family values by confusing minority homosexual and lesbian lifestyles with civil rights and hetrosexual marriage? People that fret more over what the corrupt ineffective Useless Nations isn’t doing more than the assault on our borders and national soverignty? Are these the principled descent human beings you would suggest Newt should aspire to be like and we should be voting for?

I can see why yourself and the Dems could have every reason to be anxious about the prospect of Newt annoucing his candidacy for President in addition to a “New Contract With America.” Newt is Democrat Kryptonite.

  • Vince Williams

I don’t read what you write, DM.

  • You may rest assured I’m reading what you write. And, I won’t hesitate to respond, as I see fit, to unwarranted cheap shots, criticisim, and vitriol commensurately. But you’re not reading this, are you?

VW, you’re entitled to your opinion, and I’m likewise entitled to mine. One should, however, be prepared to validate their public assertions when they besmirch an honorable mans reputation.

  • Vince Williams

DM, your comments are the War and Peace of commentary.

Who has the time, besides D__?

It would be impossible to besmirch the reputation of ‘family values’ Newt Gingrich. He’s done that himself with his own admitted affairs while married.

Just ask the friends of his first wife (out of three) in Carrollton, Georgia.

Gingrich, with the complicity of the corrupt Tom Delay, helped create the very culture of corruption in Congress that he so hollowly railed against.

Gingrich was the architect of the K Street Project, and sponsored Jack Abramoff’s rise to power.

    What a con job.

  • VW, as has been stated previously, by late Senator Patrick Moynihan, “You’re entitled to your own opinion, but not your own [errenous and unsubstantiated] facts.”

  • DAD

Dad doesn’t have the time….he makes the time.
    Carry on, gentlemen.

  • Vince Williams

“You’re entitled to your own opinion, but not your own [errenous and unsubstantiated] facts.

I think the Urantian needs a spell checker.

Gingrich has publicly admitted his infidelities.

He’s a skilled debater, but he’s an even more skilled obfuscator and brazen liar.

People like him are a cancer on the Republic.
