Raise Your Hand If You Are Surprised

A Justice Department report scolds former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales for mishandling highly classified documents about an eavesdropping program and interrogating terror detainees — two of the Bush administration’s most sensitive counter-terror efforts. The report says Gonzales failed to store the documents in proper secure facilities and at one point took them home. The report released Tuesday also says he stored them in his briefcase because he did not know the combination to the safe at his house.

It sounds like the same person that was responsible for developing our nation’s policies regarding how to treat prisoners of war would forget where he put his own head if it wasn’t connected to his body.

My favorite part of the story:

Responding, Gonzales’ attorneys say the former attorney general, who resigned under fire last year, did not mishandle the classified data on purpose. Rather, he apparently was forgetful or unaware of the proper way to handle the top secret papers.

The most powerful lawyer in the country did not know how to handle confidential information and couldn’t remember the combination to his own safe! There is definitely a lot of competition for the most incompetent official of the Bush Administration but it would be tough to argue that anyone besides former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales deserves first prize.

    Not so fast, Josh.

Gonzo will be sorely pressed for the Most Incompetent title by a world-class field of clowns, including Donald Rumsfield, George Tenet, Michael Chertoff, Michael Brown.

The competition for that prize reminds me of the 1951 National League Pennant race, which had to be resolved in a spine-tingling, 3-game playoff!

I can’t wait to see who wins this contest!!!

How could you forget Condi Rice?!?

Of course! She epitomizes the Peter Principle, and wins the Women’s Title…with a serious challenge from Harriet Miers and Dana Perrino.
