Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann says she regrets using the term “anti-American” while discussing Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s views, a remark that could threaten her re-election bid.
Bachmann told the St. Cloud Times on Tuesday that she “made a big mistake” by going on MSNBC’s “Hardball,” a show she said she’d never seen before her appearance last week. Her statement to host Chris Matthews that Obama “may have anti-American views” drew condemnation and helped her opponent, Democrat Elwyn Tinklenberg, raise more than $1 million in just a few days.
During an interview with the Times’ editorial board, Bachmann said she walked into a trap and did not bring up the term “anti-American.” Still, she said, “I should not have used that phrase.”
Sorry Michele but going on the show wasn’t the mistake; being a hatemonger and trying to divide Americans into us and them is what makes you, not Barack Obama, anti-American. The fine citizens of Minnesota would be well advised to vote her out of office. She is obviously not fit to lead this country nor does she set a good example for those that would rather solve problems than create new ones.
Further proof that there is something in the DNA of Republicans that produces these bigoted, ignorant creeps.
The really sad and scary part of this story is that these people keep getting elected by equally bigoted, ignorant voters.
This might be the year when people care more about substantive issues (specifically, their own economic wellbeing) than wedge issues. The Rovian playbook works much more efficiently in times of prosperity.
Breaking News: The RNC has pulled all ads in support of Ms. Bachmann, disavowing her comments on “Hardball.”
If we’re lucky, this could mean the end of Ms. Bachmann’s political career.
There IS a G-d!!!
But, I thought she never said those things? It is disturbing that Congressmen empowered to make our nation’s laws do not comprehend that everything they say is recorded on YouTube and elsewhere for posterity.
At least someone in the RNC has some sense of decency. They are probably bracing for major defeats nationwide and figure it’s better to look good and concede a race they will probably lose than stick up for an overt hatemonger.
Let’s see….Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy-Johnson, Nixon-Ford, Carter, Reagan, George I Clinton, George 2….
Where’s the magic of the Democratic Party????
Where’s the mafic of the Republican Party????
Where’s the magic of your reformed movement of a year ago???…..and which of the two candidates is less of a poster child for campaign reform at this late date??
…and Steve…how many of those whom you’ve taken the position on disenfranchising will likely be voting for the candidate you support??
Hypocracy running amok, I fear!
Not many.
Because the yahoos whom I want to bar from voting aren’t smart enough to see through the McCain myth and support my candidate.
Precisely why I want to bar them.
However you spell it, “hypocrisy” just doesn’t apply here.
