Four Western oil companies are in the final stages of negotiations this month on contracts that will return them to Iraq, 36 years after losing their oil concession to nationalization as Saddam Hussein rose to power.
Exxon Mobil, Shell, Total and BP — the original partners in the Iraq Petroleum Company — along with Chevron and a number of smaller oil companies, are in talks with Iraq’s Oil Ministry for no-bid contracts to service Iraq’s largest fields, according to ministry officials, oil company officials and an American diplomat.
This is what I’ve been saying all along.
This war was fought to restore the old status quo.
Why else would this administration be spending billions on its military bases and embassy in Iraq (I’ve written about the build-up at Balad here previously) if it wasn’t intending to be there long term?
As I said just a few days ago, it’s all about securing those vast oil fields for the multi-national petroleum companies.
You don’t have to be a prophet to have seen that.
I don’t even believe in a literal hell, but I have faith that the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld scum will pay their karmic debt someday.
