This Does Not Inspire Confidence

September 3, 2008 – 9:57 am

The McCain team has hastily assembled a team of former Bush White House aides to tutor the vice-presidential candidate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, on foreign-policy issues, to write her speeches and to begin preparing her for her all-important Oct. 2 debate against Sen. Joe Biden.

Does McCain, a supposed foreign policy expert, really think that former Bush aides are the right individuals to be tutoring Palin? Once again, McCain’s judgment on important issues should be called into question (this also provides ample fodder for those that believe a McCain presidency will be another Bush term). How can McCain claim that his pick of Palin shows that he is a maverick when she is getting a crash course (explicitly demonstrating her lack of knowledge on the issues) by former Bush Administration cronies?

Besides, didn’t the brilliant thinker Cindy McCain already demonstrate that Palin has sufficient foreign policy experience to be a 73 year old heartbeat away from the presidency (“Alaska is the closest part of our continent to Russia”)?

  2. The thought of Sarah Palin in the White House is scary enough, but having Bush aides tutor her on foreign policy and economic issues is absolutely frightening.

My advice? Get your passports in order and Google “apartment rentals in New Zealand” in the event that this team wins.

  3. Time for Ross Perot to declare, or Ralph Nader to really go on the stump.

  4. Palin’s lack of foreign policy experience is completely overshadowed by OBAMA’s complete lack of foreign policy experience.
McCain has the experience and the know how to run this country, his cabinet are all home-run hitters, with extensive knowledge in their respective fields. Biden has a history of rhetoric. OBAMA AND BIDEN are not capable of running the USA. McCain has proven himself as an Airman, and as a Senator. Palin has proven she can overcome pushy special interest groups and get something done.
Obama has NOT PROVEN ANYTHING other than his ability to b/s a population. He has served LESS THAN 2 years as an ACTIVE senator. of those two years, he has NOT LEAD ANYTHING. no bills, no torts, NOTHING. his voting record speaks for itself. look it up, then get an opinion.

  5. A team of “home run hitters with extensive knowledge of their respective field.?”

Does that include Phil Gram, the architect of the current financial meltdown? And Carly Fiorina, who drove Hewlett-Packard into a ditch?

What other geniuses are on your starting team?

    As for Obama’s legislation:

He voted in favor of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and cosponsored the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act.

In September 2006, Obama supported a related bill, the Secure Fence Act. Obama introduced two initiatives bearing his name: Lugar–Obama, which expanded the Nunn–Lugar cooperative threat reduction concept to conventional weapons, and the Coburn–Obama Transparency Act, which authorized the establishment of USAspending.gov, a web search engine on federal spending.

Senator Obama, along with Senators Carper, Coburn and McCain, introduced follow-up legislation: Strengthening Transparency and Accountability in Federal Spending Act of 2008.

Obama sponsored legislation requiring nuclear plant owners to notify state and local authorities of radioactive leaks.

In December 2006, President Bush signed into law the Democratic Republic of the Congo Relief, Security, and Democracy Promotion Act, marking the first federal legislation to be enacted with Obama as its primary sponsor.

In January 2007, Obama and Senator Feingold introduced a corporate jet provision to the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act, which was signed into law in September 2007.

He introduced Deceptive Practices and Voter Intimidation Prevention Act, a bill to criminalize deceptive practices in federal elections.

Obama also introduced the Iraq War De-Escalation Act of 2007.

And while it’s true he hasn’t run an agency or a business (neither, as I’m sure you know, has McCain), Obama did run an effective primary campaign for the nomination, against a field of formidable opponents.
He proved he knows how to manage campaign funds.

McCain, on the other hand, ran out of money early in the primary season. and aside from proving that he could survive five years in a prison camp, he has shown nothing about being qualified to be president.

In fact, his shoot from the hip, fly-boy mentality proves to me that he’s the LAST person we should want in the White House.
