Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin on Friday defended the nearly $200 million in federal pet projects she sought as Alaska governor this year even as John McCain told a television audience she had never requested them.
It is truly sad that with so many important issues facing our country, the presidential campaign has been distilled down to a popularity contest. Can Senator McCain, with twenty-six years of Washington experience, really claim to be an agent of change? Can the Republican Party seriously defend an out-of-wedlock teen pregnancy and use the sex card? Has anyone ever been tapped as a running mate while under investigation by his or her home state? We are all witnessing the absolute worst that our government has to offer.
Meanwhile, since wrapping up the nomination, Barack Obama has transformed from an exciting, unconventional politician to just another run-of-the-mill United States Senator, overwhelmed by the Republican noise machine and unprepared for faux scandals and attacks. With 80% of the country saying that we are headed in the wrong direction, what should be a slam dunk for Obama has quickly turned into a potential electoral defeat.
The whole disgusting show gets more bizarre by the day.
The shameless Palin put up her truly shocking thoughts about the Charles Gibson interviews at her personal blog:
“I admit I didn’t know what the “Bush Doctrine” was. I kept hearing it as “Bush doctor in,” that’s why I said “in what?”, because it seemed like Charlie had just trailed off. Also did he mean a Bush doctor like for the President or a bush doctor like a voodoo guy?”
You’d think such a skilled liar would modulate her stream-of-consciousness, dear diary writing style now that she’s a public figure, but no, nothing will stop her.
Here’s Palin on how she makes decisions:
“One thing that’s important to know about me is that I make my decisions based on Evidence…This time my evidence came from the neighbor of the woman who cut my hair. Annie…told me that her neighbor’s daughter Christine read this book her very first semester at the U of Alaska. When Christine came back for Thanksgiving she was acting really weird and finally her mother confronted her and it turned out that christine had become a Vegatarian [sic]. honestly I can’t even imagine, I know that my Bristol would never do anything like that. Even though Annie says her neighbor is a very nice woman I have to think that she also must have raised that child a little wrong if you know what I mean, but still I bet that this Leaves of Grass book had a lot to do with it.”
Either the Bush team assigned to manage Palin has got writers churning this stuff out, or someone in the McCain campaign is seriously derelict in their duty to muzzle her.
No one even stopped her from putting a wedding registry for Bristol and Levi on her blog.
The Republican party has sunk to a creative new low of political sleaze in this campaign. How fitting that the person being treated most contemptuously by the Republican Party is the religious right-winger who swallows their vile snake oil.
It’s satire, but it seemed so in character.
