Tom Ridge Will Never Be Vice President

August 15, 2008 – 11:20 am

“I think it’s a fundamental tenet of our party to be pro-life but that does not mean we exclude people from our party that are pro-choice.”

The possibility that the Republican Party will nominate a pro-choice Republican to a national ticket is zero, as evidenced by the failed campaigns of Rudolph Giuiliani, Mitt Romney, and countless others. For McCain to say that there is no litmus test for GOP candidates for national office is either an outright lie or a stunning lack of knowledge about his own political party.

Let McCain select Tom Ridge as his running mate and watch how quicky his support from evangelicals disappear (these guys are already suspicious of McCain’s conservative “credentials”). McCain has no chance of winning the White House without an overwhelming turnout from the Christian conservatives that fell over themselves running to the polls to vote for President Bush. Selecting someone that is pro-choice as his running mate will significantly reduce the incentive for these individuals to vote in November.

  1. One Response to “Tom Ridge Will Never Be Vice President”

  2. I’d vote for the “stunning lack of knowledge” option, which would certainly be consistent with McCain’s cluelessness on the economy, Iraq, the environment and every other issue.

For all his vaunted “experience,” “Drill here, drill now” McCain continues to amaze with his dumb statements.

And isn’t Tom Ridge the genius who gave us the color-coded threat level system? The thought of that deer-in-the-headlights bozo as a running mate is enough to make us wish for Dan Quayle!

Seriously…is that the BEST we can do?
