What Global Warming?

  2. Speaking as a left wing tree-hugger, I’d like to point out that Europe has a different perspective on this than North America.

Global warming doesn’t mean that there won’t still be record cold in places– the best computer models show increasing extreme weather events of all kinds.

The Europeans are very concerned about this because if the Gulf Stream changes direction (which is a real possibility with rising ocean temperatures), then all the European subcontinent could actually get COLDER as most of the planet warms.

  3. Vince,

I agree the entire world would experience potential global warming in vastly different ways. I have recently seen different lists that consist of the winners and losers of global warming.

My point is that we are jumping to scientific conclusions based on such a short amount of Earth’s history. The amount of time the human race has recorded these types of statistics is nothing compared to the existence of this planet.

The precursor to the global warming alarmists in the 1970s were the next Ice Age alarmists who had their scientific evidence that we were going to re-experience global cooling.

Let’s all take a step back and think about the little to nonexistant amount of history we have invested into this issue before we go berzerk (and Al Gore makes another movie).

As Rumsfeld might have put it, we don’t know what we don’t know.

  4. Sen. Kerry (D-MA) and Newt Gingrich Debate Global Climate Change
Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) and Fmr. Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich debate the government’s role in confronting global climate change. The event is hosted by New York Univ.’s John Brademas Center for the Study of Congress. The Center’s “Legislating for the Future” project examines how Congress mkaes policy decisions on long-term issues like global climate change.

  5. Why are the polar ice caps melting on Mars. Are they driving Martian SUV’s up there?

  6. THIS PLANET IS WARMING, BUT NOT AS MUCH AS A FEW THOUSAND YEARS AGO…VOLCANIC EMISSIONS, THE SUN SPOTS, THE MOON, OCEANS CURRENTS, MASSES OF LAND MOVING AND NARY A HUMAN OR AUTO AROUND.
MAN WONT WARM THE EARTH MUCH AT ALL.NATURAL WARMING IN THE THING.

  7. Much concern has been raised about levels of carbon dioxide emission and it’s impact on the heat retention characteristics of the atmosphere.

For the sake of argument, let’s suppose the magic elixir is found whose sole byproduct is water vapor, at this point considered ‘harmless’. Now thousands of tons of water vapor, formerly locked up in combination with this magic elixer, are being pumped into the atmosphere. Are we not then playing havoc with the water cycle.

  9. I can’t see the benefit in lending aid and comfort to an administration that has turned over the public commons of the people of the United States to plunder by corporate polluters.

Our children and grandchildren will pay for this short-term enrichment of ravenously greedy corporations.

The Bush administration’s ferocious assault on the environment is an insult to the planet itself.

The Bush White House has altered, suppressed, or tried to discredit major reports on global warming, including some commissioned by the White House itself.

We know what high regard the Bush-Cheney junta has for the well-being of the citizens of this country:

On August 21, 2003, the EPA inspector general issued a finding that the White House pressured the agency to conceal the public-health risks from toxics in the air after the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center.

Science has been politicized at the EPA, NASA, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Scientists are pressured to massage data on global warming to yield the results desired by the corporate polluters who contribute to the Republican Party.

In 2003, Senator John McCain co-sponsored a Senate plan to cut greenhouse gas pollution. When EPA scientists leaked a suppressed study which showed that this could be done at small cost, Bush retaliated by launching a $100 million ten-year program to prove that global warming has occurred naturally.

Surely it can’t be bad policy to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases released into the planet’s atmosphere.

I’d hate to be George W. Bush the day he stands before God to explain himself.
