Who died and left the Hawkeye State in charge? Can anyone name a famous person from Iowa? Besides Field Of Dreams, is there another movie that primarily takes place there? The caucus process doesn’t make much sense anyway. How many people go into a voting booth thinking about their second choice? Here is Hillary’s most recent attempt to get some Iowa brown on her nose:
“Next week the eyes of the country and the world will be on Iowa, the world will be holding its breath. We know that this decision you face is so important, you are picking a president and there isn’t any more significant decision for you to make as a citizen.”
Can she be any more melodramatic?
I’ve often wondered the same thing.
Along with the electoral college, the idea of placing the responsibility for selecting a president in the hands of some semi-literate pig farmers from a state that is hardly representative of our nation, is one of the silliest traditions imaginable.
Don’t forget all of the requisite subsidies that go to Iowa’s corn farmers that makes them overproduce, which in turn leads to the production of corn syrup, a product that has substantially contributed to making this country so obese while driving up the costs of health care.
Removing the importance of Iowa from the equation will have many positive effects for the entire nation.
If a single day in the year can be designated ‘Election Day’ for the entire nation, it seems logical that a ‘national primary day’ should also be part of the process, thus eliminating this Maine, New Hampshire, Iowa nonsense for good.
Things become so steeped in tradition that tripping over ones shoelaces becomes a matter of course.
