The soaring price of oil will leave the Iraqi government with a cumulative budget surplus of as much as $79 billion by year’s end an American federal oversight agency has concluded in an analysis released on Tuesday.
The unspent windfall, which covers surpluses from oil sales from 2005 through 2008, appears likely to put an uncomfortable new focus on the approximately $48 billion in American taxpayer money devoted to rebuilding Iraq since the American-led invasion.
Apparently, to the Bush administration, supporting the troops means wasting your money.
Is it just a coincidence that Congress went on a five-week vacation just before this story was released?
I didn’t think I could be any more outraged than I already have been by the incompetence and malfeasance of our government.
But as they do periodically, the bumbling idiots in Washington have managed to reach yet another low in the sorry saga of The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight.
HOW THE HELL CAN THEY CONTINUE TO SHIP BILLIONS OF OUR DOLLARS TO IRAQ WHEN THAT COUNTRY IS RUNNING SUCH A HUGE SURPLUS???
Why isn’t someone in Congress demanding that we immediately STOP funding ANY rebuilding there until the Iraqis start paying their own way?
What is so damn complicated about THAT???
